In a daring money heist, the driver of a cash management company allegedly diverted the attention of ATM cash custodians and security personnel and fled with the vehicle containing Rs.36 lakh in Dundigal on the city outskirts on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 5 pm, when the suspect, Sagar, a driver for Writers Safeguard Pvt Ltd, a cash management company along with a cashier, custodian and gunman went to dispense cash in a private bank ATM at Sai Baba Nagar in Dundigal.

Police said after reaching the ATM centre, the cashier, custodian and the gunman got

down from the vehicle with Rs.3 lakh to refill the cash dispensing machine.

Sagar, on the pretext of taking a ‘U’ turn and keeping the vehicle ready for their return, drove off with the rest of the money. By the time the others realized what was happening and reacted, he was out of sight.

On being alerted, a team from the Dundigal police started tracking the cash vehicle, which was later found abandoned near the Kondapur forest area. The cash bag, and Sagar, were missing.

The Dundigal police have registered a case and are investigating.
