A 4-year-old who was allegedly raped and brutally assaulted succumbed to her injuries at 3 in the morning at St. John's Hospital in Bengaluru today.  Medical reports suggested injuries to the girl's private parts.
The exact nature of the injuries will be determined by police after the post-mortem report. Sources in the police told India Today that they are waiting for the report to take further action.
The delay in the providing medical help led to the girl's death. She was malnourished and had been feeling unwell following an infection after the sexual assault.
The alleged rapist and the woman who mistreated the victim have been arrested.  The two suspects, Mallikarjuna and Chandana have been arrested under sections of POCSO and sent to judicial custody.
According to sources, the alleged sexual assault took place in the third week of August.
The father of the girl had died a few months ago and the family was left homeless.

The mother of the girl is an immigrant and worked as a domestic help. She had asked Chandna, a relative of hers to take care of her child for two months.
Mallikarjuna who is the prime suspect in the case and paramour visited Chandana's house frequently and allegedly raped the child when Chandana was not at home.
Following which, the girl developed health issues and ulcers in her stomach. Chandana then called the mother of the girl and asked her to take her child.
The mother then rushed the victim to a private hospital, where the girl was given treatment for a stomach ache and later taken to Rajiv Gandhi Children Hospital but the alleged sexual assault only came to light at St John's Medical College where she was taken last week.
A memo was sent to the police by the hospital after they found injuries the girl's private parts. Based on the memo and a statement from the girl, an FIR was registered and the two suspects were arrested.
