Kacheguda police arrested a businessman for sexually exploiting a software engineer for four years, by promising to marry her.The accused, Upendra Varma, 36, of Bowenpally, had also concealed from the victim the fact that he was already married, with a son.

On June 1, a 26-year-old software employee lodged a complaint with Kacheguda police alleging that Upendra had sexually exploited her.She also alleged that that Upendra gave her a paan laced with sedatives.

Kacheguda inspector K Satyanarayana said the accused befriended the victim ON Facebook in 2013. “Upendra told the victim that he was unmarried and got intimate with her,” the inspector said.

When the victim started pressurising Upendra for marriage, he tied the nuptial knot in September 2017, at a friend’s place in Banjara Hills to convince her that they were married. After tying the knot, Upendra took the victim to Goa and other

places in the country on a honeymoon, police said.

However, despite ‘marrying’ the victim, Upendra never agreed to make it public. When the victim came to know that he was already married and also had a child, he promised to divorce his wife but later stopped talking to the victim.

“When the victim started making enquiries, Upendra threatened her several times, directly and even through his friends, stating that he would upload her photos and videos, which he had, on the internet,” the inspector said.

As Upendra stopped all communication with her two months ago, the victim lodged a complaint. On Friday police arrested Upendra under sections 376 (rape), 354-C (voyeurism), 417 (cheating), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insulting modesty of a woman) of the IPC. Three of his friends were arrested under sections 506 and 509 of the IPC.
