A student of a private college was stabbed to death allegedly by her male friend outside Chennai’s Tambaram railway station on Thursday afternoon. The man subsequently tried to kill himself but survived, according to reports.
The victim, identified as M Swetha, was a student of Madras Christian College’s School of Continuing Education. She was stabbed in the neck by the man, identified as Ramachandran, leading to injuries that resulted in her death. After stabbing her, Ramachandran tried to kill himself. He has been shifted to a hospital for treatment, the reports added.
Reports suggest that
Ramachandran, a native of Thirukkuvalai in Nagapattinam district, knew Swetha for the past three years and had been working at a car manufacturing unit in Chengalpattu.
“From what we were able to gather from third parties we believe that they were in a relationship. We have to wait for more certain details until he is in a position to speak,” KS Narenthiren Nayar, joint commissioner of police, South, told reporters.
The police added that Ramachandran had called to meet Swetha on Thursday afternoon. However, the two got into an argument and Ramachandran punctured a hole into Swetha’s neck in anger.
