A 28-year-old man and his wife have allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well in village Oondi in Mathura, leaving behind their four minor daughters, police said on Thursday.
"Neeraj and Rakhi, 24, leaving behind their four daughters with Neeraj's grandmother, committed suicide by jumping into a well at the outskirt of the village last night," they said.
The couple is survived by four daughters aged four, three, two and a three-month-old. The children are with Neeraj's grandmother and uncle who is said to be mentally challenged.
"The case has been recommended for getting help from the discretionary fund of the chief



minister," Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Chhatta) Rajesh Kumar said. Since there is no one to look after the children,
Officials are trying to find out their permanent settlement. "With the consultation of villagers as well as Kishor Board, the permanent adjustment is being find out," he said, adding if they would be handed over for adaptation, credentials of the party would be thoroughly checked for their safety.
The family is said to be passing through financial crisis as Neeraj was working in a brick kiln in Haryana was out of job since June. "Owing to rainy season, the work in brick kiln has stopped temporarily," villagers told Mr Kumar.
