A gang of 12 thieves belonging to West Bengal robbed a rice miller of Rs 15 lakh at Kosini village in Kaghaznagar mandal of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, posing as officials of the Union Defence ministry. However, the offenders were arrested barely after an hour following the incident. The vehicle, the booty and weapons were recovered from their possession. They are likely to be produced before media by noon on Tuesday.
Kaghaznagar Rural police said that the thieves were detained after a 15 kilometre chase from Kosini to Sirpur (T) town at around 9 pm. All of the members of the gang are under custody of cops. Cash Rs 15 lakh, a four-wheeler and weapons were seized from them.
The gang had decamped with Rs 15 lakh from the owner of Sri Raja
Rajeshwari Rice Mills located on the outskirts of Kosini village, after posing as officials of the Defence ministry. The members were clad in military dresses and were carrying knives. They took the owner, who was standing outside, into the mill and then looted the cash. The vehicles used by thieves had stickers of the Defence ministry.
Upon being informed about the incident, police erected pickets in all directions from Kaghaznagar town, with the help of a huge force. They could apprehend the gang by chasing it for a distance of 15 kilometres at Sirpur (T). “They are professional dacoits. They terrorise people and loot huge amounts by posing either officials of the Defence ministry or Indian Army,” a senior police official told.
