A deputy tahsildar was caught red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths while she was accepting Rs.3 lakh bribe from the complainant at Nizampet on Tuesday.

The accused, B Sridevi, 43, is the deputy tahsildar posted at Bachupally tahsildar office in Medchal district. ACB sleuths had received a complaint from B Raghu, a resident of KPHB Colony, alleging that Sridevi demanded Rs.3 lakh bribe to sort out a problem related to a government allotted plot to him. Raghu, a petty businessman, was allotted 60 yards at

Bachupally, but later the plot was transferred to some other beneficiary. “The accused official demanded bribe to settle the issue amicably between Raghu and another beneficiary,” an ACB official said.

Based on the complaint, ACB sleuths laid a trap. Sridevi asked Raghu to meet her at a bakery in Nizampet at 7pm on Tuesday. When she took the bribe from Raghu, sleuths caught her and seized the tainted currency from her possession. The official will be produced before court on Wednesday.
