Rachakonda police arrested two doctors from Sri Krishna Multi-Speciality hospital, Uppal for conducting illegal prenatal Sex determination examination.
Police conducted a decoy operation in the hospital by planting a pregnant lady constable from Rachakonda commissionerate in order to nab the accused red-handed.
The doctor duo were identified as Dr Sigireddy Umameshwari, a gynaecologist and her husband Dr A.Chandra Shekar, a general surgeon. On the constable’s request, the
doctors carried out prenatal sex determination test and charged Rs.7500. They issued a report, informing the sex of the foetus.
Questioned by the police, the doctors confessed to their activities.Rs.7500, a printer, a Scanner and two cell phones have been seized from the accused. "The accused have been running the hospital since 2000 and have been illegally conducting prenatal sex determination test for a year now," said Rachakonda police.
