A drunkard who allegedly tried to kidnap a five-year-old girl near her school was caught in Shapurnagar on Thursday.
The people around him who noticed him holding the child’s hand thought that he was going to kidnap the child. They caught him and handed him over to the police after beating him.
Police said that the kid studying UKG at Vijaya Public School in Shapurnagar area under the limits of Jeedimetla police station was returning to the school after having lunch. She was accompanied by her mother. She was holding her



mother’s hand while walking.
“As they were about to reach the school, a man who was totally in an inebriated condition, came to the child and held her hand,” said A. Chandra Shekar.
The shocked mother raised an alarm. Passersby who noticed this, caught the man and roughed him up. He was later handed over to police.
The police, while trying to verify his identity could not get any details, as the man was not in a condition to speak. Later, they came to know that he was a rag picker and is addicted to alcohol.
