The Humayun Nagar police booked a case against a self-declared godman for allegedly raping a 26-year-old woman. The incident, which occurred more than two years ago, came to light when the victim lodged a complaint on Tuesday.
According to the police, the victim, who is a mother of two, had separated from her husband three years ago following frequent arguments between them and was living with her children near Gandipet. In June 2015, as the victim was depressed post the divorce, her sister advised her to go to Abdul Mannan Baba, 32, who resided
nearby.
“He suggested offering prayers, which were done at her sister’s house itself. Using the cover of the prayers, he raped her,” said NLN Raju, Inspector, Humayun Nagar.
The victim, in her complaint, said Mannan would ask her sister and other relatives to leave them both in one room and not to come in until the prayers were completed. She had kept quiet so long as she was afraid of the consequences. However, she finally decided to come out and approached the police on Tuesday, following which the police booked a rape case. Mannan was taken into custody.
