Father arrested for raping minor daughter in Tamil Nadu

A 43-year-old daily wage worker was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his 14-year-old daughter (who is now pregnant) at Uthukottai in Tiruvallur district on Wednesday. Uthukottai police arrested the man identified as Mohan, a resident of Uthukottai, based on the complaint of the girl’s aunt through an NGO.

The girl’s aunt learnt about the pregnancy when she visited her a few days back. The woman took her to hospital to confirm that the girl was pregnant. When she learnt that the girl’s father was behind her pregnancy, shocked relatives



approached police through an NGO volunteer and submitted a complaint against her father. Police interrogated and arrested Mohan and a court remanded him in judicial custody after he was produced before a magistrate court in the city.

Police said Mohan was married to Kanchana, who is mentally ill. The couple’s elder daughter is being brought up in a relative's house while the younger daughter stays with them. Mohan, an alcoholic, started sexually abusing his daughter from July last year and his regular sexual assaults made her pregnant.
