A
five-member gang which tried to sell a fake US$ 1 million currency note was
caught by the Rachakonda Special Operations Team on Wednesday.
The accused persons were identified as Puli Anil (22) of
Guntur, Chandra Bhushan Birua of Jharkhand (32), Rayankula Rajendra Prasad (30)
of Guntur, Pabbathi Venkatesh (29) of Ranga Reddy district and Pothuraju
Nagaraju (24) of Kadapa.
According to the police, Anil Babu and Chandra Bhushan
Birua work as seamen in a transport merchant navy ship. A year ago, during one
of their journeys, the duo found a pouch in the cabin of the ship’s
captain and
took it away. The pouch contained a US$ 1 million note, a few coins and a
certificate.
Once they landed, they searched the International
Association of Millionaires and got down all the details. However, to their
dismay, they found that the note with them was a fake one.
“They assumed that many people were unaware about a fake
US$ 1 million note and planned to cheat people and make some money. In their
efforts to dispose of the note, they roped in three other associates but all of
them were caught following a tip-off,” said Rachakonda police.
