The body of a 11-year-old girl was found in a sack on a street in northeast Delhi’s Gautampuri on Wednesday.DCP (Northeast) Ajit Kumar Singla said, “We have registered a case (murder) and are awaiting the postmortem report to find out whether she was sexually assaulted or not”.
The girl had been missing since Tuesday afternoon from her house – a few hundred metres away from the place where the body was found. The victim’s father is an autorickshaw driver, and she had a younger sibling.At 7 am, a garbage collector noticed a sack lying in the corner of a street in Gautampuri. “Thinking it to be a sack full of waste, she opened it to find a girl’s body stuffed inside,” said a local resident.
The victim’s relatives told that the body was bent at the haunches and was strapped with five polythene sheets. The body bore injury marks on the head and face and the victim’s lower garments were missing.“Her mouth
was bleeding and she had been gagged with a polythene sheet. When the sheet was removed at the hospital, blood came out of her mouth,” said the victim’s uncle.
He said there were bruises all over her body as if she had been dragged through the bushes, and alluded that she may have been gang-raped before being murdered.A Class V student at a Municipal Corporation school, the victim came home early on Tuesday as she was ill, her relatives said. “At 1.30 pm, her mother sent her to fetch M-seal (an adhesive) from a nearby shop. When she didn’t return after 20 minutes, her mother informed her husband and other relatives,” the victim’s uncle said.
Her parents searched for her at a relative’s home but did not find her anywhere. “We then registered a missing person complaint at the local police station,” he said. On Wednesday morning, her parents got a call about a body being found in a nearby street.
