South Zone police have arrested seven members of an inter-state dacoity gang and seized `20 lakh booty from their possession. The gang had committed two dacoities in the city on March 23. Police arrested Dheeraj Singh alias Akram Bhai, his associates Md Saleem, Ashwadh Shaik, Sk Saddam , Md Azmath Nazeer, Md Umer and Md Waqar from various places.
On March 23, gang mem bers went to Patharghatti area near Charminar, where several jewellery shops were located. They zeroed in on Vijay Kumar Shah, 48, a gems businessman from Jaipur. Vijay was inthe city with three kilos of gem stones worth `20 lakh to sell them to various jewellers.On March 23 afternoon, Vijay started from his lodge at Siddiamber Bazar in an auto
to meet his local business partner, near Charminar.
The gang targeted him near Agarwal College. While some members of the gang snatched away the bag containing gems, others diverted his attention and sent him in wrong direction in search of the robbers,“ deputy commissioner of police (DCP), South Zone, V Satyanarayana said.
Based on a complaint lodged by Vijay , Charminar police had registered a dacoity case. Cops also found that on the same day , at 7.15 pm, the gang snatched away a hand bag containing `1.37 lakh cash from another businessman at Siddiamber Bazar.Cops immediately took them into custody . On interrogation, they confessed to have committed the offence.
