Mumbai Police's cyber cell arrested a 26-year-old man for hacking Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan's income tax e-filing account.
The hacker is employed with paramilitary forces and has been released on bail. Police refused to divulge the accused's name and other personal details.
Here are the details:
The incident came to light last year when the actress, while filing her income-tax returns, found out that her returns were already filed. Her income was shown as around Rs 8 lakh.
"She thought that someone is trying to frame her by
showing her income to be less than the usual. So, she filed a complaint," said an officer.
The police arrested the hacker on Monday from a place outside Maharashtra.
The accused said he hacked Kareena Kapoor's account because he wanted her contact number. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
The hacker said he accessed her income tax filing account by using her PAN number which he found online.
The accused, a Central government employee, filed I-T returns for his colleagues too.
The I-T returns were filed using a cellphone through which the accused was traced to North India.
