Mangaluru: The city crime branch have arrested three youth on charges of possessing ganja and seized 10-kgs of drugs here yesterday.
The trio have been identified as Rameez Raaz (24) from Bantwal, Mohammed Haneef (31) Natekal, and Iqbal Haris (24) Belma.
The police have successfully seized 10 kgs of ganja, three mobile phones, a digital weighing scale, small plastic packets used to fill ganja in, Rs 9,500 cash and a Honda Unicorn two-wheeler from the accused. The total value of the seized items including ganja has been estimated at three lakh.
It is learnt that, the accused had bought the ganja from Chittor district, Andhra Pradesh to Mangaluru. The three then rent out a room in a lodge at
Falnir. The accused used to sell the ganja in little packets to college students and public.
Among the accused, Ramiz is wanted in a case of vandalism at a hotel in Toudugoli Cross in Konaje. He was earlier accused of selling ganja and was out on bail. Mohammad Hanief too has a case under NDPS Act in Mangaluru rural PS in 2016 and Iqbal is wanted in five cases including abducting and sexually assaulting a medical student registered in Konaje PS and assault in Mulki PS limits.
The police said that action will also be taken against those who bought drugs from the three accused.
A case has been registered under NDPS Act in Mangaluru North Police station and further probe is on.
