Seven persons of a family have been booked for murdering a student of Lovely Professional University (LPU) here on Friday, who was celebrating his friend's birthday on Thursday night.
Accused have been identified as Naseeb Chand, 74, his two sons Rahul Kumar, 47, Ashok Kumar, 39, and nephews Abhishek,17, Aniket,16, Rohit,16, and Rishav,14, all of Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar residents.
While Rahul and Ashok were later arrested, the remaining accused are on the run. As per the information, Ashish Prasad, of Assam, a B Tech student of LPU, was celebrating birthday of Rishav along with five others in a rented house at Shaheed Udham Singh
Nagar.
Police said youth were neighbours of the accused, who told them not to celebrate birthday after 12pm following which both sides exchanged heated arguments.
Later, Naseeb and his family members attacked the youths with sticks, which hit the head of Ashish Prasad, leading to his death on the spot, said superintendent of police (SP) Parminder Singh. He said that in the scuffle Rajjat Chobay of Haryana and Aman Kumar of Bihar got injured and are undergoing treatment at the local civil hospital. The SP said raids are being conducted to nab the accused. A case under a Section of 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused.
