Posing to an Army Major, a man from Ahmedabad, India, duped 50 women after befriending them on matrimonial websites on the pretext of marriage.
Julian Sinha alias Siddharth Mehra's father is a retired Army colonel while he is a school dropout with impeccable English. He used his defence-family upbringing to lure women and claimed to them that he is looking for a soul mate and intending to buy a house.
Sinha had duped women across 25 states with a false promise of marriage. After a few weeks of
chatting online, Sinha would ask the victim for money to buy a house before proceeding for marriage. Upon receiving the money, he would cut off all correspondence with the victim.
The matter came to light when a woman approached police and told them that Sinha had asked for Rs50,000 from her for buying a house under the Army Housing Scheme. However, as soon as she transferred the cash to him, Sinha went into hiding.
He was traced to Chandkheda locality of Ahmedabad by tracking his mobile phone number.
