A flower businessman was arrested on Friday on charges of duping a software engineer by marrying her after concealing his ‘first marriage’. He also collected Rs 37 lakh by ‘cheating’ the victim’s mother to clear his long-standing debts, the police said.
According to police, Md Ahmed Ali, 40, a flower businessman of Gudimalkapur, concealed his marital status and posed as an owner of several properties in different places in the city to woo the techie. “He hatched a plan to marry a rich girl so that he can clear his debts.
Therefore, he contacted Aijaz Sultan of Noorkhan Bazaar, a mediator, to scout for such marriage proposals who in turn agreed to offer ‘service’ for a commission,” DCP (South) V Satyanarayana told the media on Friday. Explaining the modus operandi, the DCP said that Aijaz introduced the techie to Ahmed while they visited a dargah in Nagpur in June last year.
“Ahmed convinced the techie’s mother that he owns several properties in the city, including a big house in Banjara Hills. The
victim’s mother was impressed and gave her consent to the marriage. Since then, Ahmed frequently used to meet the victim’s house at Yakutpura.
Later, he prepared bogus documents of a house in Abids and approached victim’s mother to purchase the property and convinced her that the property is available for only Rs 50 lakh as the present value is Rs 1.2 crore. As such, he took Rs 10 lakh from her as advance,” the DCP said.
Afterwards, Ahmed took another Rs 27 lakh to invest in his business, he said. “On December 5, he performed Nikah (marriage) with the victim at Rajendranagar where relatives of the bride raised doubts saying that he is already married and questioned whether he had divorced his first wife,” the official added.
Based on their complaint lodged at Rein Bazar police station, police arrested Ahmed and recovered fake educational certificates and fake age-proof certificates, along with 12 tolas of gold, a car and cash of Rs 75,000, from his possession. Efforts are on to nab Aijaz, who was absconding.
