Bhopal: A 45-year-old man in a Madhya Pradesh village on Sunday brutally killed his wife and their two minor children by hacking them with a sword over their pet dog, police said.
The incident occurred in Badnagar, nearly 50 km from district headquarters of Ujjain.
According to the police, Dilip Pawar started beating the family’s pet dog at around one in the morning.
He flew into rage and attacked his wife Ganga (40), son Yogendra (14) and daughter Neha (17) with a sword when they tried to intervene, pleading him to spare the dog.
His two other sons however escaped by fleeing from
home, police said.
Later, the man slit his throat with the sword, police said.
Police rushed to the spot after receiving information on the incident and sent the four bodies for forensic tests, local sub-divisional officer of police Mahendra Singh Parmar said.
He said that the man was drinking heavily. However, the investigation would ascertain if he was drunk when he committed the crime.
According to the police, the man had sold his freight van, which was his only source of livelihood, a few months ago. He has had no job since then.
