Hyderabad : A 30-year-old man allegedly smothered his wife to death for additional dowry on Monday and later surrendered before the police. P Srikanth was married to 26-year-old Srikala in 2007. Srikala’s family gave 10 tolas of gold, a cash of Rs 2.5 lakh and household items during the marriage. Soon after the wedding, Srikanth and his parents started harassing her for bringing an additional dowry of Rs 1.5 lakh for a new car, the victim’s mother, Neelam Yadamma, alleged. Following repeated torture, Srikala returned to her parents' house a few days ago.
Srikanth, however,
brought her back a couple of days back and on finding that she had not got the money, smothered her to death with a pillow with the help of his mother, P Vijaya and brother, P Madhu, the family alleged. Preliminary investigation revealed strangulation marks on victim’s neck. The dead body has been shifted to Gandhi mortuary for post-mortem. Later Srikanth surrendered to the police, the cops said, adding that efforts were being made to nab Vijaya and Madhu who were still at large. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 302 and 498 A of the IPC and Section 3 and 4 of DP Act.
