A teenage girl, who was returning from a non-alcoholic party at a pub in the city, was allegedly gang-raped in a moving car by a group of youngsters in Jubilee Hills last Saturday.
Based on the 17-year-old victim’s complaint, the police first booked a case of outraging a woman’s modesty, but later changed it to one of gang-rape including sections of the POCSO Act, after the girl, during counselling by officials at the Hyderabad Bharosa Centre, revealed that she was gang-raped.
According to the complainant, her family members grew suspicious after noticing bruises on her face and neck and when they questioned her, she told them that some unidentified youngsters had misbehaved with her. When woman officials at the Bharosa Centre spoke
to her, she revealed about the sexual assault.
Based on the girl’s revised statement, the Jubilee Hills police altered the sections to that of rape. Teams were formed to identify and nab the youngsters, one of whom was arrested from the city outskirts late on Friday. The pub management, staff, guests at the party and the victim’s friends are being questioned and footage from surveillance cameras is being examined.
According to the police, the victim had gone to the pub last Saturday with a friend and was returning home in the evening when some youngsters, who reportedly met her at the pub, approached her and told her they would drop her home. She got into their vehicle, after which they allegedly went to an isolated spot and raped her.
