Newly wed 19- yr- old woman allegedly commits suicide in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A 19-year-old woman, who got married recently, was found hanging in her house at Sabji Mandi in Jiyaguda on Tuesday night. Police suspect she committed suicide allegedly due to harassment by her in-laws.

According to the police, about six months ago, the victim Iffath Fathima married Khaja Nizamuddin and was staying with her in-laws in a joint family.

Nizamuddin had worked overseas for a brief period of time and came back to Hyderabad. “A fortnight ago, Nizamuddin went to Qatar for a job while Fathima lived with her in-laws,” police



said.

Police said that Fathima’s family alleged that in the absence of her husband Nizamuddin, she was harassed by her mother-in-law Sultana Begum, her sons Mohammed Jameel, Mohammed Khaja Moinuddin and his wife Ayesha Sultana.

Due to harassment, she hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her room. She might have died on the spot, police said.

Based on a complaint, the Kulsumpura police booked a case and took up investigation. Fathima’s body was shifted to OGH and was later handed over to her family after an autopsy.
