The Rachakonda Cybercrime police on Tuesday nabbed a Nigerian on charges of cheating people in the guise of supplying herbal oil online. The arrested person, Ozoeze Charles Okelue (42), a student from Pune in Maharashtra and a native of Lagos in Nigeria, had come to India on a student visa and started cheating people with the help of another Nigerian, Ifanye.
They procured SIM cards and bank accounts with fake identity proofs. “They registered fake
companies in fictitious names with the help of third parties for supplying herbal products. They contacted victims on social media through mails and messages and collected huge money before cheating them,” police said, adding that the two had collected Rs 77 lakh from a pharma company director recently.
Following a complaint, a case was booked and Okelue was arrested from Pune and brought to Hyderabad on a prisoner’s transit warrant.
