The Cyberabad police on Wednesday arrested two persons, including a Nigerian national, on charges of cheating a person on the pretext of selling smartphones at low prices. According to the police, the suspects, Godwin Ibe (34), resident of New Delhi and citizen of Nigeria, and Rorellien Hmar (24), also residing in Delhi and a native of Manipur, had posted an advertisement on the India Mart website, offering smartphones at very low prices.
The complainant, a resident of Kondapur, placed a bulk
order for Samsung S7 Edge phones after seeing the advertisement. He paid Rs15,000 as booking amount, and subsequently deposited Rs 3.56 lakh as customs, income tax, stamping and delivery charges.
“After paying the amount, he waited for a few days. As the delivery was getting delayed, and with the mobile phones of the suspects being switched off, he understood that he was cheated and lodged a complaint,” said Janaki Sharmila, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad.
