New Delhi: Just six months after an MNC executive was reportedly raped by an Uber cab driver, another instance of sexual harassment by another driver of the app-based taxi service provider has surfaced in the capital.
A 21-year-old woman has alleged that her Uber driver tried to forcibly kiss and molest her aboard a cab driven from Delhi to Gurgaon.
The incident reportedly happened on May 29, when the woman, a professional dancer, was returning to her house in Gurgaon after a performance in Delhi.
Uber has suspended the driver, identified as Vinod, and is directly handling the matter
with the victim. A police complaint has also been filed.
According to the her brother, she was not hurt and managed to save herself by pushing the driver away.
Uber, in response, said it has a zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour, and that immediate action was taken against the driver even while the matter was being thoroughly investigated.
“Our team immediately reached out to the rider via phone within minutes of receiving the feedback. Multiple members of the Uber team have spoken with the driver to ascertain the sequence of events,” Uber said.
