Hyderabad: Seven persons were caught by the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force (West) on Tuesday on charges of operating a hawala racket in the city. The police seized Rs 5 crore, two cars and a motorbike from them.
Acting on a tip off, the police caught Vipul Kumar Patel (39) Shailesh Bhai (49), Vipul Kumar Patel (29), Arjun Labhuji (28), Rajesh Rameshbai Patel (31), Upendra Kumar Patel (55) and Patel Chetan Kumar (39) all natives of Gujarat residing in various parts of Hyderabad.
City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, addressing a press
conference, said that the suspects in the case were caught during vehicle checking at the Jubilee Hills check post along with the cash. “The accused persons are running a racket of illegal transfer of money and supplying it to businessmen in the city at an interest of 0.6 per cent. They were working for P Umesh Chandra & Company of Ahmedabad apart from two persons, Harshad Bhai Patel of Mumbai, and Umesh of Ahmedabad,” the Commissioner said, adding that they were transporting the cash in two cars when the Task Force caught them.
