Hyderabad She Teams caught 30 persons, including eight minors, for allegedly harassing women at various places across the city during the Ganesh immersion processions on Tuesday. Many were warned and let off, police said.
The She Teams were placed at different spots in the city to check on women harassment during the celebrations. “While the teams were observing, some people were following the procession and sprinkling water on women. Some were throwing water packets at them too,” said Swati Lakra, Additional Commissioner of Police, (Crimes) and She Teams In Charge.
Police said some youngsters were caught while throwing paper pieces and flowers on women. Others were found clicking
selfies with women, without their knowledge and consent. Some were whistling and shouting at women in processions.
“Some of them stalked women. Few others were trying to touch them inappropriately in an inebriated condition. All these activities were video-recorded and they were caught red-handed with video evidence,” she said.
A majority of them were caught at Tank Bund, while others were caught from SR Nagar, Charminar, Falaknuma, Mehdipatnam, Chaderghat and Secunderabad areas. Cases were registered and they were produced before the court. Several people were also warned for creating nuisance during Ganesh Shobha Yatra, officials said.
