Sleuths from the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Shamshabad arrested a Sudan national for attempting to enter into a contract marriage with a 20-year-old woman from Hyderabad. Police have booked the accused under charges of cheating and attempt to trafficking.
The accused, Wail Mohammed (31), had made an agreement with the victim’s family to marry her for three months. Mohammed, an accountant from Sudan, came to Hyderabad on November 14 on a visit visa.
Shamshabad SOT police said: “The accused, made an agreement with the family members of the victim, who hail from Vattepally in Mylardevpally, through a fake
Qazi, Md Habeeb Khan from Jahanuma. He paid ₹1 lakh to the victim’s family through Habeeb and two other brokers, Shamem Sultana and Shabana Begum.”
SOT raided the victim’s house on Sunday and arrested Wail Mohammed, Habeeb Khan, Shamem Sulthana and Shabana Begum. The police also seized Rs.1.1 lakh in cash, $300 and fake marriage witness agreement.
“Though on paper, there was no mention that the marriage was for three months, we came to know that Mohammed had paid the family and brokers to spend three months with the victim after marriage,” the SI said.
