A teacher of a government school allegedly raped a Class IX student of another school after offering her a lift, under Cheedikada police station limits in Visakhapatnam district on Tuesday.
The 14-year-old victim, who was also badly beaten up by the 40-year-old accused when she resisted his attempts, was rushed to a government hospital where her condition is stated to be stable. The accused teacher has been arrested.
Cheedikada police station sub-inspector L Suresh Kumar said the victim was waiting for a public transport on Tuesday morning in her home town to go to her school, which is about six kilometres away. “The teacher, who was passing by on his bike, saw the girl waiting at the bus stop and offered to drop at the school. The
girl initially refused, but agreed to sit on his bike after the accused claimed he’s a teacher at a nearby school,” the SI said.
But instead of taking her to the school, the accused stopped the bike at an isolated spot. The girl was beaten up when she tried to thwart his attempts.
The accused also threatened the girl with dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone. Hearing the girl’s cries, some locals rushed to the spot from the nearby farm fields.
The accused tried to escape from the spot but was caught by the locals who thrashed him before handing him over to the police. The victim later lodged a complaint at Cheedikada police station.
