Pune: A 30-year-old web developer here registered a police complaint against a 33-year-old man, accusing him of defrauding him of Rs 2.5 lakh with the promise of a job abroad. After lodging the complaint, the techie also helped the police nab the accused, identified as Prince Ronak Kotecha (33).
The techie told the police that Kotecha had promised to help him, his wife and brother-in-law get jobs in a multinational software company in Russia. The techie stated that they were interviewed over calls and got job confirmation letters from a Russian email address. Thereafter, Kotecha said that he would have to pay money to officials of the company.
The techie transferred a sum of Rs 2.5 lakh to Kotecha, but grew suspicious when the latter hankered for more money. Subsequently, the techie lodged a complaint with the Wakad police and got the accused arrested, according to a report by The media.
"Our
investigation revealed that Kotecha also duped two more youths with the promise of jobs in the CBI. We have produced him before the magisterial court, which ordered his remand in police custody till July 10," the report quoted sub-inspector Ashok Jagptap as saying.
In another incident, a 42-year-old man has been held by the Delhi Police for allegedly impersonating an IAS officer and duping people under the pretext of getting them jobs in the Gulf countries.
Police said the accused, identified as Shine Jyothi Sathya alias Siddik Abdul Rehman, is a resident of Uttam Nagar area in Delhi and hails from Alleppey district in Kerala. So far, he has duped at least seven people of Rs 10 crore. The matter came to the fore after one of the victims filed a complaint at Seemapuri police station alleging that Sathya duped him and his friends of Rs 20 lakh on the promise of arranging visas for jobs in the Gulf nations.
