New Delhi: An undertrial prisoner at Tihar Jail’s high-security ward was attacked and killed by four other inmates on Tuesday night.
Initial probe has revealed that the assailants used improvised weapons carved from window materials to kill 29-year-old Deepak, Tihar Jail’s PRO Mukesh Prasad said. Deepak and the assailants were lodged at a high-security ward in prison number 8 of Tihar. Deepak had been in Tihar Jail since 2008 in connection with several cases ranging from dacoity to attempt to cause death.
The assailants included a life convict Satpal
and two others involved in murder cases. One of them Manpreet had allegedly killed another inmate inside Tihar earlier.
“The four have been regularly violating the prison norms and have been involved in many cases of assault and criminal force inside the jail,” said Mr. Prasad.
They attacked Deepak inside a cell at around 10 pm on Tuesday. He was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where he was declared brought dead. A case in this connection has been registered at Hari Nagar police station and investigations taken up.
