Kanpur: In an another example of
distorted law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, two new cases of gangrapes
have been reported here in Kanpur.
In the first case, a class eighth girl was allegedly gang-raped by four men in a moving car. The girl was on her way to buy some medicine when four people abducted her near Chakeri Police area and raped her.
According to the victim, the accused threw her in the bushes near Banthra toll plaza near Unnao District after allegedly raping her.
The police have registered the case
against the four accused and the victim has been sent to the hospital
for
medical check-up.
In another case, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in Patara village by an unknown person with the help of his friend. The girl was on her way to deliver lunch to her father, who was working in the field, when the two accused raped her.
A case has been registered in the Ghatampur Police station on the statement of the victim. However, the police have still not been able to catch the accused.
Rape is the fourth most common crime against women in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau 2013 annual report, 24,923 rape cases were reported across India in 2012. Out of these, 24,470 were committed by someone known to the victim (98 percent of the cases).
