Woman claims Instagram friend raped her on pretext of marriage promise

A woman approached the Gopalapuram police alleging she was cheated and raped by a man who had promised to marry her.

According to the police, the 25-year-old woman, a private employee, and the accused Sunder became friends on Instagram and soon were in a relationship. He proposed to her and she accepted. Since then, they had met on several occasions. Subsequently, on a



promise to marry, he allegedly took her to a hotel near Railway Officers Colony in Bhoiguda and raped her for two days, she alleged.

Recently, when she asked him to marry, Sunder refused and started avoiding her.

Based on the victim’s complaint, the Gopalapuram police booked a case of rape, cheating and other offences. Efforts are on to nab the accused.
