A young woman was allegedly lured with the promise of a job, drugged by offering sweets laced with sedatives and raped in Medipally.
The Medipally police on Tuesday arrested a driver of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) on charges of drugging and raping the woman, after the woman lodged a complaint with the police.
Police said the suspect, Soma Sailu, had lured the victim, who was in her thirties, by promising a job through his contacts. Recently, he showed her some documents claiming them to be offer letters and handed them over to the woman. He then allegedly offered her sweets laced with sedatives and raped her.
“Wishing her on getting the job, he
offered the sweets, which were laced with sedatives. After eating them, she fell unconscious and he sexually exploited her,” police said.
She realised what happened only after regaining consciousness and confronted him. Based on a complaint lodged by her, a case for rape was booked against Sailu and he was arrested. He was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
Sources said Sailu had also cheated people to the tune of Rs 1.2 crore in the guise of various businesses. However, police said they had not received any complaint in this regard. “We will book a case and probe if the victims come forward and lodge a complaint,” they added.
