Hyderabad: A woman who duped an NRI on the pretext of marrying him after befriending him through a matrimonial website was arrested by the Rachakonda police on Tuesday. She was already arrested for a similar offence earlier this month. Archana, 30, a native of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, created an account on ‘Bharat Matrimony’ and introduced herself as Pushtayi alias Archana.
Weeks after creating an account, she came in contact with Simhadri Pavan Kumar, who works in the USA. “Two of them were in touch with each other over the phone for 10 days in April. The woman told that she works as an IT professional in the US and had come to India on a short
visit. Pavan Kumar, believing her, decided to marry the woman. Archana told that there was a vacancy in a company in West Palm Beach in Florida and she would join there,” said the police.
Archana told Pavan to transfer around Rs 4 lakh saying she needed the money to shift the luggage. She provided a bank account and Pavan transferred Rs 4 lakh in the account. He later realised he was duped.
The police said Archana was involved in similar fraud cases before and had duped several persons in the city. She was arrested by the Cyberabad, Hyderabad and Rachakonda police and remanded in previous cases.
