Agra: In a tragic incident, a mother-of-two allegedly took her own life by shooting herself with a country-made gun at her residence in Vidyapuram Colony in Uttar Pradesh's Agra Friday morning. In a three-page note the now-deceased woman -- identified as Mona Dwivedi (30) -- left behind, she urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "ensure the safety of women in their houses."

As per reports, Dwivedi locked herself inside her room and shot herself in the chest with the country-made weapon around 10 am on Friday. Hearing gunfire noise, other female members in the house rushed to Mona's room. They entered the room after breaking open the door and found Mona lying in a pool of blood. She was dashed to a hospital, where medics pronounced her "brought dead".

Before taking the extreme step, Mona sent a three-page note to her family members on their cellphone. The

note, addressed to PM Modi, has got splattered across social media platforms. In the note, Mona urged the PM to ensure women's safety in their homes. She blamed her brothers-in-law -- Pankaj and Anuj -- for pushing her to kill herself.

The now-deceased woman's letter reads: "Ambuj and Pankaj, who are connected with the ruling party, beat me up as I belong to a poor family. My mother died in my childhood and my father is an alcoholic. They threatened to kill me if I narrated my plight to anyone." She further stated that she got married when she was 16 years old. Her in-laws repeatedly tortured her, but she could not take any action against them because she feared that her husband would abandon her.

Police said initial inquiries revealed that the woman died by suicide. There was some family dispute and her brothers-in-law used to make sarcastic remarks, police added.
