A 50-year-old woman in Chengapuram village in the district committed suicide by hanging herself on Wednesday night owing to family pressure to share `55 lakh which she got through the sale of her agricultural lands.
According to police, the deceased, K Vinoda, sold her 12 acres of land in February for `56 lakh. Since then her family members were pressurising her to distribute the amount among themselves. While Vinoda wanted to put the entire amount in a joint account of her husband and son, however, her son was
insisting on transferring the entire amount to his account.
Meanwhile, when the two daughters of Vinoda learnt about their brothers’ plan, they began pressurising their mother to share the amount with them too. This went on for the last nine months. Unable to bear the pressure of her family members, Vinoda hanged herself with her saree in her room. Later, her family informed the police.
However, the death was rumoured to be over demonetisation, which the police proved wrong later.
