Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) detectives arrested a woman who arrived at the RGI Airport from Abu Dhabhi while she was trying to smuggle out 1.29 kilo gold concealed inside a mixer. In another case, Customs sleuths arrested two smugglers while they were trying to smuggle out 13 drone cameras from Bangkok.
DRI detectives intercepted the woman soon after she landed at the airport in the wee hours of
Thursday . The DRI sleuths smelled the rat seeing the woman carrying the Preethi mixer in her baggage.
They noticed that the motor of the mixer had been tampered with. “When we dismantled it, 1.29 kg gold tumbled out. The smugglers poured molten gold into the motor core and then sealed it with an aluminium sheet,“ a DRI official said. The accused was booked under the Customs Act.
