New Delhi: A 37-year-old woman was gang-raped after she was kidnapped in a Meru cab by its driver and two of his friends on Friday.
She was allegedly driven around west Delhi and later taken to a shop where two more men were waiting for them. She was gang-raped there. Police have arrested five men and confiscated the cab.
According to police, the woman was let off at 4:30 am. In her complaint, the woman told police that she was gang-raped inside a shop where punctured tyres are repaired. “The woman was kidnapped in Sagarpur near Paschim Vihar and gang-raped at a shop in Peeragarhi. The shop is about 15 km away from the spot from where she was kidnapped,” said a police officer.
The woman is separated from her husband and lives in Sagarpur. She claims to have left home at 10:30 pm on Thursday to fetch coconut water from a nearby market. She was walking towards the market when a Meru cab reportedly stopped next to her.
Two men who were sitting in the rear seat
overpowered her and pulled her inside the car. They gagged her and threatened to kill her if she screamed for help. “The three men drove her around on west Delhi roads for over an hour during which they were talking to somebody on mobile phone,” the officer added.
The woman said two men were waiting for them at the shop in Peeragarhi. They together lifted the woman from the car and took her inside the shop. “The five took turns to rape her,” the officer said.
At 4:30 am, the miscreants let off the woman and asked her to return home with a warning that they will kill her if she approached police. The woman soon informed her friends, who made a call to the police control room. The woman’s medical examination confirmed sexual assault.
“On the basis of the woman’s complaint, a case of gang-rape and abduction has been registered at the Paschim Vihar police station. All the accused have been arrested,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Pushpendra Kumar.
