Woman set ablaze by husband in Hyderabad

A 48-year-old woman was set ablaze by her husband in Hyderabad over a family dispute. The incident took place in the early hours on Monday when the husband, Mallesh Goud poured petrol on his wife, Mangamma and set her on fire. 

He then locked the room with his wife in and another room with his children, later fleeing from the spot.Neighbours rushed to rescue the victim and admitted her to Gandhi Hospital for treatment.Mangamma sustained 80 percent burn injuries and her condition remains to be critical.

But later the 48-year-old woman succumbed to burns she suffered after she was allegedly set on fire by her husband at their residence under the Jawaharnagar police station limits here on Monday. Police said the incident occurred around 5 am when the victim, V Mangamma,



was sleeping on the balcony and her two sons, Naresh and Mahesh, were in the bedroom.

The police informed that Goud is a drunkard and his drinking habit was one of the reasons behind the fights between the couple. It is learned that Goud even threatened to kill Mangamma a couple of times.

A case has been registered against Goud under section 307 (attempt to murder) and 498-A (subjecting a married woman to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code, and a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused.
