A 32-year-old woman software employee, who was allegedly pressured by her husband to resign from her job and enter politics during the recent Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, was found dead under suspicious circumstances. The woman was being harassed by her husband and in-laws on various counts, including joining politics and also for additional dowry, police said.
The victim was found hanging to the ceiling at her residence today. The incident took place at Nallagattu locality of Ramgopalpet police limits.The deceased was identified as Swetha. She was married to Srikanth, who runs a photo studio. They had two daughters. Swetha’s parents alleged that Srikanth used to harass their daughter mentally and physically since marriage. “Srikanth also demanded our daughter to resign from her job and enter politics by
contesting the GHMC elections. Srikanth has tried to contest his wife as Corporator. However, Swetha denied to resign from her job and refused to contest the election,” they alleged.
Srikanth runs a photo studio in the locality but he is dependent on his wife’s salary. As she declined to take up politics, the harassment increased, Swetha’s parents alleged. Srikanth and his parents also harassed Swetha for additional dowry. According to police, Srikanth came home in a drunken condition last home and had arguments with Swetha on petty issues.
In the early hours, family members noticed Swetha hanging to ceiling fan. Police shifted the body for a postmortem. Based on complaint lodged by Swetha’s parents, police registered cases of abetment to suicide against Srikanth and his parents and are investigating.
