Youth gets death sentence for rape, murder of 9-month old girl

A local court on Thursday awarded Capital Punishment to a youth, who raped and murdered a nine-month-old girl at Kumarpally village in Hanmakonda here in June this year.

The baby, asleep with her mother on the terrace of the house was kidnapped, raped and murdered by the 26-year-old youth Polepaka Praveen of Vasanthapur village in Shayampet mandal of Warangal Rural district on the intervening night of 

June 18-19.

The



Hanamkonda police arrested the accused on the same day for the heinous offence.

Apart from the family members and relatives of the baby, several people’s organisations and local people hailed the court judgment.

The court examined close to 30 witnesses in this case. Praveen’s confession to his crime paved the way for quick disposal of the case awarding him the highest punishment. Praveen will have chance to appeal in the higher court.(UNI)
