Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister, Kadiam Srihari, will head the sub-committee constituted by the Union HRD Ministry under the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) to look into issues related to girls education. The sub committee will hold consultations with the Cental/ State governments and other stakeholders and submit its report within a year from the date of constitution.
The other members of the sub committee are: Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister for Finance and Planning, Assam and Dr. Neera Yadav, Minister for Social Education and Literacy Development, Jharkhand. Rina Ray, Additional Secretary, School Education, MHRD, will be the member secretary.
The sub-committee will examine the
reasons for low participation of girls in education, including the socio-economic factors with resultant gender bias. It will suggest ways to reduce the gender disparity. The sub committee will also assess the current status of girls enrolment across the country at primary, upper primary, secondary and senior secondary education. It will examine the girls participation in education across socio economic groups of SC, ST, Minorities and rural urban areas.
The sub committee will also look into issue of safety of girl students in schools, particularly residential schools and hostels and identify infrastructure gaps. It will compile best practices adopted by states/Union Territories for raising standards of girls education.
