As the country went into lockdown, thousands of students were quarantined in India’s coaching hub Kota in Rajasthan. As the weeks progressed, state governments started to make provisions for Kota students to come back to their hometowns despite the logistic issues. But the number of students in Kota is so large that despite efforts, many are still waiting to return.
The shutdown of public transport is
making the situation even worse as state governments are being forced to arrange for buses to bring back the students and travelling by bus across thousands of kilometres can at times take up to week.
Other problems raising its head is the limited number of buses available in certain cases wherein students will need to make the days-long journey in cramped conditions a big red flag during the Covid-19 pandemic.
