The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts various recruitment examination for government jobs in India. Oliveboard, India's largest online learning platform for banking and government exams with over 6 million subscribers, unveiled a study report that reflects a trend in applicants spending more than three hours daily on YouTube for competitive exam preparation.
The learning content available on YouTube has increased exponentially and so has the subscriber base. Students now prefer to watch videos and make use of the vast visual study material accessible online. This study is an attempt to identify the studying pattern of students preparing for SSC.
This study highlights YouTube as the most used social media platform for SSC preparation followed by Google, Telegram and Facebook.
The study also reveals that 32.8 pe rcent of the applicants find Quantative Aptitude and Numerical Ability the most difficult section. However, 32.4 per cent and 25. 6
per cent of applicants found General Awareness/ current affairs and English difficult.
According to the research by Data Labs by Inc42 , K-12 education and test prep will rake in a whopping USD 1.3 billion in 2021. The Online test preparation platform sector, in particular, are slotted to be the fasted growing category within online education.
"We have been observing a growing inclination of the applicants towards Youtube for SSC preparation. This is also a reflection of technology adoption in general not only from Tier 1 but from Tier 2 and 3 markets. We have also seen that visual learning can retain more information in Human Brain; it processes graphic information faster than text resulting in quick analysis and recall."
