The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to unveil the rationalised syllabus for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024 next week.

The announcement comes from the NTA director, who has revealed to TOI that the syllabus has been meticulously curated, considering insights from the National Medical Commission (NMC) and consultations with various boards that rationalised their senior secondary syllabus during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This move comes after the JEE Main syllabus was revised by the NTA in early November to synchronise with the curriculum adjustments made by various education boards, including the CBSE, in response to the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

A committee under the NCERT was established to address the deleted units from the syllabi of 44 education boards that participated in the consultation, ensuring

alignment with the revised curriculum.

As part of the syllabus rationalisation exercise in 2022, 30% of the NCERT syllabus was removed. The official reason stated was to help students deal with the Covid-19 school closures and other pressures. The syllabus rationalisation process was started in December 2021 and the process was completed around June 2022 with a team of subject experts.

The deleted portions of the NCERT textbooks including Gujarat Riots, Cold War, Mughal Courts, references to Mahatma Gandhi, and more created controversies.

NEET UG 2024 is scheduled to take place on May 5, marking a crucial examination for aspiring medical students. The registration process for undergraduate medical, dental, and allied courses is expected to commence in January.

The exact date for the commencement of registrations is yet to be officially announced.
