On International Women's Day 2021, the Andhra Pradesh government took an appreciable decision to end all taboos concerning the health and hygiene of the girl child in the state by providing free sanitary napkins to all.
The government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to provide free sanitary napkins to female students in government schools in colleges, above class 7.
The YS Jagan government has decided to provide 10 sanitary napkins to each female student belonging to the aforementioned classes every month, starting the next academic session.
Quality sanitary napkins to be available at every government’s YSR Cheyutha store across the state, at affordable prices under this new venture launched by the
Andhra Pradesh government to promote the menstrual health of female students.
The government released a statement that said, “1 lady teacher in every school/college will be tasked with the responsibility of overseeing the storage and distribution processes. She will also be responsible for educating the students about the methods of safe disposal of the used napkins.”
It highlighted that Cervical Cancer, Reproductive Tract Infections, Hepatitis B infection, various types of yeast infections, and Urinary Tract Infections are just a few complications that the lack of access to quality sanitary napkins and so the Government decided to provide basic hygiene kit to economically backward and other sections of the society.
