President Ramnath Kovind has approved the appointment of BA Chopade, current Vice Chancellor of Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University as the new Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
The post was lying vacant after Girish Chandra Tripathi went on leave following the ruckus on campus in September last year. According to sources in BHU, an official letter from
President's office regarding Chopade's appointment was sent to the university on Thursday.
Chopade who is a Professor of Biotechnology was awarded the Best Vice Chancellor award in the year 2016 by an academic organisation that recognises such achievements. Sources in the government and that after Tripathi, they wanted someone with a clean track record to head the university.
