A meagre 30.76% students from the Science stream and 37.13% students from Arts cleared Class XII examinations conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB).
The only silver lining in the results that were announced on Tuesday was the Commerce section, in which 73.76% students passed.
Having drawn nationwide flak last year for the three fake intermediate toppers, the BSEB, this year, conducted free and fair examinations throughout the state.
"For the first time, bar code was used with answer sheets to ensure a fair evaluation. Besides, to ensure cheating-free exams, CCTV cameras were installed at examination centres... Videography was also done throughout the duration of the examinations," said BSEB Chairman Anand Kishore here on Tuesday.
Around 12.6
lakh students appeared for the intermediate exams. While Khusbu Kumari of Simultala Awasiya Vidyalaya in Maoist-infested Jamui district topped in Science with 86.2%, Priyanshu Jaiswal from College of Commerce (Patna) topped with 81.6%. Ganesh of Samastipur topped in Arts with 82.7%.
Rewards
The three toppers will get Rs 1 lakh and a laptop each as a reward. The second and third toppers in all three streams will get Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 each, respectively, along with laptops from the BSEB.
Hours after the results were announced, the board came in the line of fire as several parents complained that around 70% Science students and 63% Arts students failed because the papers were evaluated by "incompetent teachers" from primary and secondary sections due to teachers' strike.
